Visit to the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology (IPBB) in Almaty
Dr. Peter Liebelt, Head of CASIB, visited the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology (IPBB) in Almaty to explore the Institute’s research priorities and opportunities for future cooperation in plant science, sustainable agriculture and climate change.
At the invitation of the Institute’s Director, Dr. Kanat Abaevich Yermekbayev, Dr. Peter Liebelt, Head of CASIB, visited the Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology (IPBB) in Almaty to learn more about its latest research activities and strategic priorities.
IPBB conducts research in plant physiology, genetics and biotechnology, with a particular focus on the conservation, study and sustainable use of the genetic resources of cultivated plants and their wild relatives.
The Institute’s research addresses key challenges for sustainable development, including food security in the face of climate change and related pressures such as soil degradation. These issues are of increasing importance both for Central Asia and globally.
Previous joint research activities have already received support from the Federal German Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. Building on this successful cooperation, the visit provided an opportunity to discuss new areas of collaboration and explore joint research initiatives addressing challenges at the intersection of agriculture, climate change and sustainable development.
