Overview: How to apply for a DFG Funding Grant
1.Find a German partner (PI)

– Only a researcher based in Germany can submit an application to the DFG.
-You are a partner from Central Asia (a project participant).
2.Choose a DFG programme

Programs
1.Research Grants Programme + Developing Countries Module
The main and largest programme. It funds a full Germany–Central Asia research project, publications, fieldwork, training, and travel. Your participation is included through the Developing Countries Module, Mercator Fellows, and Workshops.

2. Initiation of International Collaboration
Suitable for starting cooperation: visits to Germany and Central Asia, initial meetings. https://www.dfg.de/en/research-funding
3. Project-Specific Workshops (Module 52.06)
Funds the organization of scientific workshops and training events. https://www.dfg.de

4. Write the proposal (together with the German PI)
The German PI prepares:
- project objectives
- scientific background / state of the art
- budget
- timeline
- resources and infrastructure in Germany
You prepare:
- description of the region and field sites
- your data, methods, and contribution
- fieldwork plan
- support letter from your university
- CV using the DFG template
5.The application is submitted by the German PI through the system https://elan.dfg.de
The German PI submits the full application(Figure 3,4)


7.DFG conducts the peer-review process
- independent reviewers
- the decision is usually made within 4–6 months
8. After approval
- the funds are transferred to the German university
- collaboration with Central Asia is funded
- trips, research activities, workshops, and equipment (if allowed) are supported
