We are delighted to invite you to this year’s CASIB Regional Conference titled “Regional Conference on Future-Oriented Research and Innovations,” taking place on November 17–18, 2026 in Astana.

The conference brings together researchers, policymakers, innovation stakeholders, and representatives of partner institutions from Germany and Central Asia to discuss how research and innovation can contribute to sustainable development and transformation in the region.

The event is organized with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR), and the German Research Foundation (DFG).

Research for Sustainable Development and Transformation

Central Asia is experiencing a period of rapid global and regional transformation, driven by artificial intelligence, digitalization, climate change, and the need for a more sustainable economy.

Kazakhstan, together with other countries in the region, is actively working towards a green economy and has set the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. At the same time, climate adaptation is becoming increasingly important across Kazakhstan and Central Asia.

Against this background, collaborative research and innovation can play a key role in developing solutions to pressing regional challenges. Projects focusing on sustainable urban development, land and water management, and other areas have already demonstrated promising approaches.

The central question of the conference is:

How can research best contribute to sustainable development and the transformation it requires?
