Framework Call on the promotion of projects in research and innovation cooperation with the countries of the Eastern Partnership and Central Asia

The Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) has launched the German–Mongolian Ideas Competition for the Implementation of Thematic Events and Event Series (GM-MEET). The initiative is part of the Federal Government’s Strategy for the Internationalisation of Education, Science and Research and aims to strengthen long-term scientific cooperation between Germany and Mongolia.
The programme supports the development of new research networks and exploratory collaborations through the organisation of thematic events and event series involving German and Mongolian partners. Beyond promoting scientific excellence, the initiative seeks to foster sustainable international partnerships, facilitate the exchange of researchers and experts, and encourage dialogue between academia, research organisations, industry, and policy stakeholders.
Funding is available for projects in the following thematic areas:
- Climate and Sustainability Research
- Engineering and Materials Science
- Health Research
- Archaeology
- Artificial Intelligence (including as a cross-cutting theme)
Eligible applicants include German universities, non-university research organisations, companies—particularly SMEs—as well as other research-performing institutions. Each proposal must involve at least one partner institution from Mongolia.
Selected projects may receive up to €35,000 in funding for a duration of up to 12 months to organise workshops, conferences, thematic event series, networking activities, and science communication initiatives in Germany and/or Mongolia.
The application process consists of two stages. Project outlines must be submitted by 28 August 2026. Following an expert evaluation, the five highest-ranked proposals will be invited to present their concepts during the German–Mongolian Science Day, which will take place on 21 October 2026 at the BMFTR in Berlin. During the event, the submitted concepts will compete in an Ideas Competition, and the winning projects will be selected for funding.
