DFG-Supported Workshop: Blue-Green Water Infrastructure for Climate-Resilient Water Management
Experts from Germany, Kazakhstan and Central Asia came together at Nazarbayev University for an international workshop on blue-green water infrastructure and climate-resilient water management, laying the groundwork for future joint research and collaboration.
On 31 August – 1 September 2026, Nazarbayev University hosted the international workshop “Blue-Green Water Infrastructure for Climate-Resilient Water Management”, bringing together experts from Germany, Kazakhstan and Central Asia.
The workshop was held within the one-year DFG – Initiation of International Collaboration grant, aimed at strengthening scientific cooperation and preparing a joint proposal for a subsequent three-year research project.
From the German side, expertise was shared by Dr. Dörte Ziegler (Koblenz University of Applied Sciences), Dr. Malte Henrichs (FH Münster University of Applied Sciences), Dr. Anke Schmidt and Dr. Sascha Henninger (RPTU Kaiserslautern-Landau), as well as Stephan Bandermann (Sieker mbH).
On the Kazakh side, one of the key organisers was Dr. Aliya Assubayeva from Nazarbayev University, who introduced the workshop and helped bring participants together around the development of a future joint research agenda.
The CASIB team also took part in the workshop, supporting the exchange between German and Central Asian partners, contributing to discussions on future cooperation, and helping strengthen links for the development of joint research initiatives
The discussions focused on blue-green infrastructure, climate adaptation, urban water management and flood resilience, as well as priorities for future collaborative research.
