1. Project on modernization of the National Innovation System of Uzbekistan(MUNIS)

 The project is implemented by the Government of Uzbekistan and   financial support of the World Bank and is aimed at modernizing the national innovation system of Uzbekistan. Includes component: Research Excellence Program — REP). The largest internationally supported program for modernizing Uzbekistan’s science sector. REP is the main competitive research funding program in Uzbekistan, supporting high-quality projects with strong scientific merit and clear societal or economic relevance.

Who can apply:

Researchers from research institutes and universities; strong preference for joint projects (local + international partners, including Uzbek scientists abroad), collaboration with private sector, and proposals from young researchers.

What it funds:

Cutting-edge research addressing national priorities:renewable energy, low-carbon technologies, energy efficiency, biotechnology, medicine and health, agriculture and food, AI, ICT, and other strategic fields.

 

Selection criteria:

  • Scientific excellence – rigorous peer review.
  • Societal/economic relevance – contribution to solving national challenges or commercial potential.

Grant types & size:

  • Junior Researcher Grant: up to $200,000, duration up to 24 months;
  • Senior Researcher Grant: up to $600,000, duration up to 24 months;

Additional goal:

Supports preliminary research needed for applying to major international research funding programs.

The program funds:

  1. the establishment and modernization of scientific laboratories;
  2. the purchase of modern equipment;
  3. the formation of strong research teams;
  4. conducting research that meets international standards;
  5. commercialization of scientific results (startups, patents, technologies);
  6. involvement of international experts and partners.

    2.Science and Innovation Support Fund (InnoFund)

     The official fund of Uzbekistan, aimed at supporting scientific and innovative projects: startups, new technologies, laboratory equipment.

    The Fund finances:

    1. the development of prototypes, pilot products, and new technologies;
    2. applied research with market potential;
    3. equipment for laboratories and innovation teams;
    4. the launch of technology startups;
    5. projects by young researchers and engineers.

    Main idea: to transform scientific results and technologies into commercial solutions.

    3.Agency for Innovative Development under the Ministry of Higher Education and Science of Innovation of the Republic of Uzbekistan

     

    The state body that forms the policy on innovation, research, and scientific and technological development.

    Publishes grant competitions and informational announcements for young scientists and research teams.

    The Agency finances:

    1. national scientific and technical programs (water, energy, agriculture, healthcare, IT);
    2. research with high economic and social relevance;
    3. projects focused on technology transfer and innovation implementation;
    4. human capital development (training courses, programs for young scientists);
    5. international scientific and innovation projects.

    Main idea: strategic state-driven development of the science and technology sector.
