International Conference: The Caspian Sea – Issues, Prospects, and Opportunities for Sustainable Development

The international conference “The Caspian Sea: Issues, Prospects, and Opportunities for Sustainable Development” will be held at the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Almaty.

The Caspian Sea is facing a long-term decline in water levels, creating growing environmental, economic, infrastructural and social challenges across the region. The conference will bring together researchers, experts and policymakers to discuss the causes and consequences of these changes, explore adaptation strategies, and strengthen regional cooperation and evidence-based decision-making.

The programme will address a wide range of topics, including climate pressure and water-level decline, biodiversity conservation, geopolitics and energy security, regional connectivity, green hydrogen, environmental risks and sustainable development. Dedicated sessions will also focus on the use of satellite Earth observation, remote sensing and environmental monitoring for assessing pollution, coastal vulnerability and changes in the Caspian Sea.

The second day will include expert sessions on remote sensing, environmental risk management and sustainable development, followed by a Policy Brief Development Workshop aimed at translating scientific knowledge into practical policy recommendations.
