Researchers from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) and Leibniz University Hannover participated in the international conference “Modern Agricultural Science”, celebrating the 70th anniversary of the A.I. Barayev Scientific-Production Center for Grain Farming. The event highlighted German-Kazakh scientific cooperation in sustainable agriculture and featured a live demonstration of MLU’s innovative mobile wind tunnel technology for measuring wind erosion and protecting vulnerable steppe soils.

The international conference “Modern Agricultural Science”, held to mark the 70th anniversary of the A.I. Barayev Scientific-Production Center for Grain Farming, brought together leading researchers and experts to discuss current challenges and innovative approaches in sustainable agriculture.

Among the international participants were representatives of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU) and Leibniz University Hannover, highlighting the strong scientific cooperation between Germany and Kazakhstan. Prof. Georg Guggenberger, Head of the Institute of Soil Science at Leibniz University Hannover, contributed to the conference discussions on climate adaptation, sustainable soil management, and the future of agricultural research.

 

 

As part of the accompanying Field Day, the MLU team (Dr. Gerd Schmidt, Dr. Moritz Koza, and Lasse Pein) presented their innovative mobile wind tunnel under real field conditions. The demonstration showcased how precise in-situ measurements of wind erosion and dust emissions can support the protection of vulnerable steppe soils and contribute to the development of sustainable land management practices.

The event provided an excellent platform for scientific exchange and emphasized the importance of international research collaboration in addressing the environmental and agricultural challenges facing the region. The successful participation of German researchers once again underlined the value of German-Kazakh partnerships in advancing innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture and climate resilience.
