Brief Description
ExSoil is a regional initiative aimed at strengthening soil science research, education, and innovation across Central Asia and Mongolia. The project establishes a network of competence centers and a Virtual Institute of Soil Science connecting universities, research institutions, and international partners. EXSOIL promotes sustainable soil management, modern laboratory standards, interdisciplinary research, and the integration of advanced technologies such as digitalization and AI. By addressing soil degradation, climate change, and ecosystem resilience, the project contributes to sustainable agriculture, environmental protection, and the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in the region.
Results
Expected outcomes and relevance
The project strengthens the link between research and practice through training, workshops, and stakeholder engagement, promoting soil health and sustainable land management in Central Asia and Mongolia. It enhances capacity building, international cooperation, and access to research infrastructure, while supporting innovation and improved resilience of agroecosystems. A key result will be the development of a follow-up large-scale international project to ensure long-term collaboration and impact.
