ApocynumTex Kickoff Meetings (Almaty and Nukus, 18. – 24.10.2021)
In mid-October, the representatives of the ApocynumTex project started in July 2021, visited two partner countries. The program included two kick-off meetings with its partners from KazNU (Almaty) as well as IICAS and the Ministry of Innovative Development of Karakalpakstan (Nukus).
In conjunction with project arrangements, CASIB took two field trips to observe and identify the suitable locations for growing the Apocynum.
Workshop on waste and circular economy in Kazakhstan (18.10.2021, Nur-Sultan)
On October 18, CASIB attended the first workshop on waste and circular economy in Kazakhstan, hosted by the Waste Management State Policy Department of the Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in cooperation with the Delegation of German Economy in Central Asia.

Drone measurement flights in Central Asia as part of the DUB-GEM project (05.09. - 08.09.2021)
On September 5-8, 2021, CASIB accompanied the DUB-GEM project delegation running drone test flights in a former uranium mining area near Mailuu-Suu (Kyrgyzstan). Despite the inclement weather conditions, such as high humidity and wind, the test flights were conducted successfully. Compared to the conventional hand-held measuring devices, the new technology enables to record radiation exposure even in the hard-to-reach areas, e.g., steep dump slopes. Moreover, this method has other advantages - lower radiation exposure of the personnel and time efficiency.
