On September 5-8, 2021, CASIB accompanied the DUB-GEM project delegation running drone test flights in a former uranium mining area near Mailuu-Suu (Kyrgyzstan). Despite the inclement weather conditions, such as high humidity and wind, the test flights were conducted successfully. Compared to the conventional hand-held measuring devices, the new technology enables to record radiation exposure even in the hard-to-reach areas, e.g., steep dump slopes. Moreover, this method has other advantages - lower radiation exposure of the personnel and time efficiency. Thus, based on more accurate cartographic information the targeted remedial measures can be taken in the former uranium mining area.
