The country’s science policy is based on the Law on Scientific Activity and State Policy on Science and Technology, which defines the legal framework for research, scientific institutions, human capital development, innovation support, and intellectual property protection. Tajikistan has identified priority research areas for 2021–2025, including mathematics and natural sciences, biological, chemical, nuclear, and environmental safety, nanotechnology and new materials, mechanical engineering, as well as digital technologies such as IT, modeling, artificial intelligence, robotics, and unmanned systems.

The National Academy of Sciences of Tajikistan plays a central role, supported by the Agency for Innovation and Digital Technologies under the President, which coordinates the country’s innovation and digital transformation agenda.

The strategy focuses on modernizing scientific infrastructure, strengthening cooperation between universities, research institutions, and industry, increasing commercialization of scientific results, and creating a more supportive innovation ecosystem. At the same time, Tajikistan faces challenges such as limited funding, a weak innovation environment, and insufficient integration of science and production. Strengthening the science and innovation system is considered essential for the country’s sustainable development.
