From October 28 to November 1, Dr. Katrin Krüger, head of the Preparatory College of Saxony-Anhalt at MLU, visited the MLU/CASIB foreign representative office in Almaty to get an overview of the higher education and funding landscape in Kazakhstan and discuss opportunities for collaboration. The program included meetings with representatives of Almaty Technological University (ATU), Al-Farabi Kazakh National University (KazNU), Almaty University of Power Engineering and Telecommunications (Energo University), the Center for International Programs (coordinator of the Bolashaq Program), the National Academy of Sciences of Kazakhstan, and the German Chamber of Commerce in Central Asia.

There is a high interest in German higher education in Kazakhstan, reflected in numerous active partnerships in teaching and research. For example, MLU has run a German Law Center in Astana with Maqsut Narikbayev University since 2019 (https://zdr.kazguu.kz/home/de). In addition, there are joint research projects and academic collaborations.

The Preparatory College (https://www.studienkolleg.uni-halle.de/) is important in preparing students and school graduates for successful university studies, including providing sufficient German language skills.

Dr. Krüger emphasized the importance of leveraging the growing interest in studying abroad in Germany and increasing the number of qualified applicants from Kazakhstan in Halle.
