On 23 February 2024, CASIB and the German Kazakh University organized a session on the topic of “Science Meets Green Policy” for the third time. The conference makes an important contribution to informing policymakers in Central Asia about findings from international scientific projects, such as the CLIENT II projects (www.bmbf-client.de), and thus supporting political decision-making. In terms of content, our session focused on the importance of modern methodological approaches such as GIS and modelling for more sustainable use of natural resources in Central Asia.

In the context of population growth, climate change, and accelerating land degradation, it is of great importance to manage natural resources more sustainably. The mentioned instruments can make an important contribution to this, as the presentations on the TERESA project (Urban Water Management, BMBF project in Kazakhstan, www.bmbf-client.de/projekte/teresa), the SUFACHAIN project (Sustainable Value Chains in Agroforestry, BMBF project in Central Asia, https://www.bmbf-client.de/projekte/sufachain) and project activities of the Federal Foreign Office as part of the Green Central Asia funding initiative.

The Academy of Sciences in Kazakhstan and the Research Institute under the Ministry of Ecology in Uzbekistan were among the panelists. The panelists included the Academy of Sciences in Kazakhstan and the Research Institute under the Ministry of Ecology in Uzbekistan. The large number of participants (59) reflects the interest of regional stakeholders in Central Asia in scientific findings on the topic.
