On April 05, CASIB met with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Tashkent to discuss project activities in Central Asia, especially in the Aral Sea region.

On the part of JICA, the main focus was on the presentation of the Japanese-Central Asian project activities within the framework of the SATREP program (Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development). The overall goal of the program is to establish an inter-circular business model for saline agriculture to strengthen smallholder farms. To achieve these goals, various strategies such as effective irrigation systems, the cultivation of halophytes and efficient use of resources are pursued through the optimization of value chains.

Both sides expressed interest in cooperation, as there are many similarities in the above–mentioned topics, and, as a result, opportunities for synergy with CLIENT II (International Partnership for Sustainable Innovation) - a funding program of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).The KendyrTEX and KlimALEZ project on sustainable agricultural land use in Uzbekistan are currently running via CLIENT II.

Like SATREPS, the CASIB project office works in partnership with the Ministry of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the International Innovation Center for Aral Sea Basin under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. We look forward to a productive cooperation with SATREPS and our Uzbek partners to make an important contribution to the sustainable development of the Aral Sea region.
