At the plenary session of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, the Aral Sea region was recognized as a zone of environmental innovations and technologies. The initiative was proposed by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev. It was announced back in 2018, and finally adopted on May 18, 2021. This news was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The resolution was co-authored and supported by 60 states. In it, the UN General Assembly stated to support regional activities and initiatives aimed at improving the environmental, social, economic and demographic situation in the Aral Sea region, as well as to conduct research advisory activities.

The special importance of intensifying regional cooperation to overcome the consequences of the Aral Sea crisis and stabilize the economic situation in the region is noted.

All stakeholders are encouraged to conduct interdisciplinary research, develop and implement environmentally sound technologies, thereby contributing to sustainable inclusive and environmentally sustainable economic growth and the application of energy- and water-saving technologies.

The Aral Sea region became the first region with such a significant status. This news is very meaningful for our regional partners - the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in the Republic of Kazakhstan and the International Innovation Center for the Aral Sea Basin under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
