From 19.06 to 22.06.2023, the German-Kazakh University (DKU), in coordination with the Federal Foreign Office and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, organized a German-Kazakh Rector's Forum in Astana on the occasion of the visit of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, as well as the visit to Yessenov University in Aqtau to lay the foundation stone for a joint German-Kazakh Institute for Sustainable Engineering. The background of the state trip is the increasing geopolitical importance of Central Asia and the desire to deepen economic and scientific relations between Germany and Kazakhstan. CASIB accompanied the trip.

At the Rector's Forum, the importance of science for the transformation of the economy into a green economy, which Kazakhstan is striving for, was emphasized. The focus here is on topics such as renewable energies, green hydrogen, the circular economy and renewable resources. In order for innovations to be able to emerge in these areas, close cooperation between science and industry is a prerequisite.

The CLIENT II measure of the BMBF aims precisely at this. Since 2017, the German Ministry of Research has already provided more than 10 million for CLIENT II projects with Kazakh participation and thus made an important contribution to the development of a sustainable economic system in the region.  About the innovations, some of which have been developed to market maturity, you can find out on the website https://www.bmbf-client.de / inform.
