On July 8, 2020, CASIB visited the industrial cities of Ekibastuz and Pavlodar in northeastern Kazakhstan to inform about the CLIENT II funding measures and to discuss new project ideas with regional stakeholders.  In Ekibastuz, talks were held with Bogatyr Komir, the largest coal mining company in Kazakhstan, in which project ideas for reducing the environmental burden of coal mining were discussed together with the management and the Competence Center for Ecological Technologies in Kazakhstan.

In Pavlodar, CASIB met with the deputy governor of the region, Saken Shayakhmetov, and the heads of the departments to learn about current ecological issues and projects in the area. Furthermore, talks were held with Toraighyrov University and the Innovative University of Eurasia to discuss current projects and project ideas on the CLIENT topic areas and beyond for possible follow-up measures. 

During a tour of the Aluminum Plant in Pavlodar with the plant department for ecology, CASIB presented ideas to improve air filtration systems and possibilities for slag processing. These ideas are particularly interesting for the preparation of the next funding measures and can be considered here.

In conclusion, CASIB visited the National Agrarian Science and Educational Centre in Pavlodar and the Krasnoarmeyka Agrotechnical College. The research center is a partner of the ReKKS project on climate-adapted agriculture. CASIB shared views with both institutions on current project activities and the potential for further cooperation.
